Caves Llopart awarded with the 2017 Creu de Sant Jordi

The Creu de Sant Jordi is one of the most important recognitions a person or an institution can receive from the Generalitat de Catalunya. Caves Llopart has received this important award as recognition for its long record in a relevant sector of the Catalan economy, which is the one of producing wines and ‘caves’. They have reached a position of privilege in this area because of the quality of their wines and ‘caves’, and because of their constant wish to innovate. Furthermore, this year they celebrate the 130th anniversary of their foundation. According to a document written in Latin, Llopart’s history goes back to January 7th, 1385, when Bernat Llopart (or Bernardus Leopardi) was granted the use of some vineyards located in what is today’s Heretat de Can Llopart de Subirats. It wasn’t until 1887 that Pere Massana started to label his cava with the name of the property he had in Subirats, that is: Llopart. This is the reason why he used a very special label, which is the one that still appears in all Llopart bottles. In this label we can see a panoramic view of the Can Llopart de Subirats country house and the mountains around. It is the first reference to a link between the Llopart from the Penedès region and viticulture. Llopart family has dedicated more than 25 generations to taking care of their mountain vineyards, which follow very rigorous methods of viticulture that guarantee the best quality of their grapes, where all their well-known wines —Reserva, Gran Reserva and limited productions— stem from. They work the 95 acres of vineyards with the utmost respect for the environment and are certified as organic farmers.
